Training
The Isle of Coll, where Project Trust is based, is beautiful. It is. But would I make the two day trip up there if I didn't have to? Probably not. It took me and dad six hours to drive to Glasgow in the car, followed by a three hour wait at the station and a four hour train ride to Oban and a five hour ferry ride to the island the next day. By the time I got to training I was so tired all I wanted to do was sleep and some of the talks nearly did the trick! It was all really interesting but all I wanted to do was curl up in my nice cosy bunk bed and snooze.
Training was fun though- playing ultimate frisby on the beach (I'm clearly a rising star...), meeting the other volunteers and ceilighing away on the last night. But it was such a lot of information in four days and I still don't feel prepared in the slightest for going away. Training just made everything seem more real- before India was just something I chatted about to people but now it feels like it's actually happening. Constant butterflies. It was the cultural information I found really interesting.
DID YOU KNOW: In India, a wave can mean go away? And if offered food in someone's home you must always refuse first time?
There's a lot of stuff I would never even of thought about, like how to cope with teacher's using corporal punishment- even though it's illegal in India most teacher's still use it and I think it's one of the things I'm going to struggle with if I do see it. I have to remember that Indian schools aren't like the ones at home and a lot of things are going to take a while to get used to. I'll probably spend the first few weeks wishing to come home, but I am determined to stick with it- I'm a strong cookie.
