Finally there are pictures!!

Hey guys! I feel really bad that I haven't managed to put pictures up here yet so I'm going to do that now. This week we have been celebrating Ganesh and since almost everyone at the school is a devout Muslim this is a BIG occasion! We have a large Ganesh idol in the courtyard draped in flowers and presented with food and every night all the staff and children sit beneath the awning and pray. Then we give thanks and throw colored rice and flowers for the God as well as receiving red spots of spice on our foreheads and drinking blessed buttermilk. It's so beautiful. Padma says on the 11th night the wqhole city will take their Ganesh's and walk them into the river- there will be thousands of people and the huge 50ft+ plus idol in the centre of the city will be carried through the streets. Needless to say i am VERY EXCITED!

Here are some photos from the first two weeks at my project!

The wall of photos from home in my room-theres over 80 so everyone's in there somewhere! My friend Kavitha who works in the kitchen loves looking at you lovely lot! She speaks about 10 words of English and I speak even less Telegu but we manage.- everyone who staring on Ganesh day we were laughing so hard together in the kitchen!

Teacher's day at the school- first opportunity to dress up!

Washing day Indian style! It basically involves a bucket of soapy water, a bar of soap and the bathroom floor. I'll never complain about how loud our washing machine is again!

Me and Jadan. He's definitely one of my favorite kids. He's in LKG (Lower Kindergarten) and is just an angel! He calls 'Madam!' whenever he hears my voice and his little face lights up. He begs me to tickle him and play round and round the garden on his hands. The school is the best place for them and has such a positive attitude towards the blind but must be so difficult being a blind child- put into a boarding school at age four with 500 other children, they don't get a lot of individual attention so I try and give the very little ones a little bit of extra love.

When we asked Padma where we empty the bin in our room she simply pointed behind one of the buildings. We went and looked and realized you effectively have to throw your litter onto a field behind the school. I am so sorry nature!!!

If you have any questions about anything at Devnar don't fail to post them in the comments section! Si excited to see what next week holds in store.
